the recuperative care project
Four projects with different programs were added to certain facades around the facility. Each program served a purpose for occupants on the campus of the National Health Foundation’s Recuperative Care Facility in South Los Angeles. The organization asked to design four programs that would benefit their occupants well being while staying over temporarily: a stage, haircutting station, gathering space, and area space. Each project had four group members designing one project as their focus while the other three projects were individually designed to coincide with the main group project. In the second part of this group project, individually each member explored creating an instruction manual. Showcasing a step-by-step manual with materials, and tools that envisioned how the project would be built. LA UNIDAD was about integrating a space of solidarity, where one can feel received in open arms the moment, they step in. We wanted to incorporate solidarity within the aspect of the neighborhood by incorporating these cubic kites with vibrant colors as a reference to the “papel picado,” a decorative craft that many Mexicans use to hang for celebrational purposes yet shares this positive energy through its colors.
