WOODBURY SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE

Partners: Karla Sandoval, Adriel Navarro, & Louiza Chillian

Course focused on understanding materials functioning on buildings through building a mock up version of the original building. The group decided to analyze the Walt Disney Concert Hall and focused on building the exterior (skin) of the building. By constructing this mockup, materials usage were explored through fabrication methods and deep analysis were explored.

A. (3) 3’ x 6” x 6” steel beams of 1/4” thickness
B. (3) steel base plates of 1/4” thickness bolted through the concrete base and welded with the steel beams
C. (18) 7/8-9 x 4” hex head bolts going through the steel base plates
D. 3’x2’x6” concrete base
E. (4) 5’ x 2” x1/4” curved steel bars plus (2) 5’ x 1” x 1/4” curved steel bars braced with (4) 1’-6” x 2” x 1/4” vertical steel bars welded to each other and the steel beams
F. (36) 6” x 6” x 1/8” steel sheets attached to the steel bar system with VHB tape
